Hair loss due to stress
causes:
Stress is a common cause of temporary hair loss. This can happen through several mechanisms:
- Telogen effluvium: Under extreme stress, much of the hair can suddenly enter the resting phase (telogen phase) of the hair growth cycle and fall out after a few months.
- Trichotillomania: This is a compulsive behavior where people tend to pull out their own hair when under stress.
- Androgenic alopecia: Although genetic, stress can accelerate this hair loss.
Symptoms:
- Sudden and widespread hair loss.
- Thinning hair across the entire head.
- Bald spots.
- In the case of trichotillomania, missing tufts of hair can be noticed.
Prevention and treatment:
- coping with stress: Techniques like meditation, yoga, and deep breathing exercises can help reduce stress levels.
- Balanced nutrition: A lack of important nutrients can worsen hair loss.
- Advice: Psychological counseling can help with trichotillomania.
- Medication: In some cases, medications like minoxidil can help slow or reverse hair loss.
Important NOTE:
It is important to emphasize that although stress can be a trigger for hair loss, it is not the only cause. If you experience unexplained hair loss, it is important to consult a dermatologist or trichologist to determine the exact cause and begin appropriate treatment.
