Retinol care: revolution for your skin

Retinol-Pflege: Revolution für Ihre Haut

Retinol, also known as vitamin A or beta-carotene, was discovered by a US biochemist over 100 years ago. As a pure form of vitamin A, it plays an essential role in the growth processes of cells. It is absorbed through food and largely stored in the liver, from where it is released and transported to every cell in the body. Retinol protects the top layer of skin and also stimulates the formation of collagen. The skin can also absorb the necessary vitamin A from outside using retinol care products.

Retinol: The all-round care ingredient

In cosmetic products, retinol has a two-fold effect on our skin: On the one hand, it has a peeling effect. The top layer of skin is removed and skin renewal is stimulated. This reduces pigment spots, large pores and skin imperfections.

On the other hand, retinol also stimulates collagen formation. The structural protein is responsible for elastic and firm connective tissue in the skin. This makes collagen and therefore also retinol the best active ingredients against wrinkles and signs of skin aging. With regular use of care products with retinol, these effects can be seen after around four weeks - this corresponds to the skin's renewal cycle.

When should you start using care products with retinol?

Even though retinol is often referred to as an anti-aging ingredient, you can't start using it early enough. From your mid-20s onwards, vitamin A is perfect for preventing skin aging and wrinkles.

You often read that retinol is not suitable for sensitive skin. But that is only true to a limited extent. Although retinol can cause skin irritation, there are numerous different products with different levels of vitamin A. This means that there is a suitable retinol product for every skin type. If you are unsure, you should seek advice from a beautician or dermatologist.
