The 4-Week Countdown: How to Prepare Your Body and Scalp Optimally for Your Hair Transplantation

The decision for a hair transplant has been made – an important step on the path to renewed self-confidence. However, the success of the procedure does not depend solely on the expertise of the treating surgeon. Optimal preparation of the body and scalp in the weeks before the operation lays the foundation for smooth healing and the best possible growth of the transplanted grafts. In this guide, you will learn how to prepare optimally in the four weeks before your hair transplant.

Week 4: The starting signal for optimal nutrient supply

Already one month before the procedure, you should begin preparing your body from the inside for the upcoming regeneration. A balanced diet rich in essential vitamins and minerals strengthens the immune system and promotes wound healing. Especially important in this phase are iron, zinc, and vitamin C. A medical blood test provides information on whether any deficiencies exist that should be corrected before the operation. At this time, it is also advisable to drastically reduce or ideally stop nicotine consumption altogether, as smoking significantly impairs scalp circulation and can thus endanger the survival rate of the new hair follicles.

To specifically support nutrient supply, special supplements tailored to the needs of hair are recommended. The KÖ-HAIR Hair Loading Capsules contain a highly effective combination of pumpkin seed extract, saw palmetto, zinc, and biotin, which promote hair growth from within and strengthen the hair roots.

Week 3: Getting the scalp in top shape

Three weeks before the hair transplant, scalp care comes into focus. A healthy, well-blood-circulated scalp offers the transplanted grafts the best conditions for growth. Start with gentle scalp massages to stimulate microcirculation. Avoid aggressive chemical treatments such as hair coloring or perms to prevent unnecessary irritation or stress to the scalp.

Targeted care with circulation-promoting active ingredients prepares the tissue ideally. The KÖ-HAIR Circulation Serum Spray with the innovative active complex Redensyl® stimulates the hair follicles and improves scalp circulation. In combination with the KÖ-HAIR Circulation Shampoo, you create an optimal environment for later hair growth.

Week 2: Medication management and stress reduction

Two weeks before the procedure, it is crucial to stop all blood-thinning medications and certain supplements in consultation with your treating doctor. These include, among others, aspirin, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, and omega-3 fatty acids. These substances can inhibit blood clotting and increase the risk of bleeding during and after the operation.

Equally important in this phase is stress management. A high cortisol level can negatively affect the body. Intentionally plan relaxation phases into your daily routine and ensure sufficient sleep so that your body can enter the procedure well-rested.

Week 1: The final countdown

In the last week before the hair transplant, you should completely avoid alcohol, as it also has blood-thinning effects and can influence the effect of local anesthesia. Also, reduce your caffeine intake and avoid coffee or energy drinks entirely on the day of the operation.

Wash your hair thoroughly on the morning of the procedure, but avoid any styling products such as gel, hairspray, or wax. Remember to wear comfortable clothing, ideally a shirt or jacket with a zipper that you do not have to pull over your head. This way, you avoid damaging the freshly transplanted grafts when changing clothes after the operation.

Also prepare your home for the time after the operation. A special neck pillow is essential to ensure a safe sleeping position during the first nights. For optimal care during the healing phase, we recommend the specially developed KÖsmetik Post-OP Care Series, which gently cleanses your scalp and actively supports the healing process.
