Skincare routine in summer: The most common care mistakes in heat

Sun, high temperatures, and increased UV radiation pose special challenges to the skin in summer. While many adjust their care habits, unconscious mistakes often creep in that can burden the skin's appearance in the long term. We show you the most common skincare mistakes in heat – and how to avoid them.

Using overly rich textures

Creams with very rich ingredients can quickly cause heat buildup on the skin at high temperatures. The result: an unpleasant, shiny skin feeling and clogged pores. In summer, light gel or fluid textures are ideal, providing moisture without weighing down.

Neglecting sun protection

Probably the most common and at the same time most serious mistake: insufficient sun protection. Even on cloudy days, UV radiation can damage the skin and accelerate skin aging. Use a sun protection product with at least SPF 30 daily – and reapply it every two to three hours.

Over-cleansing the skin

Many tend to wash their face several times a day in summer with aggressive cleansing products to remove sweat and sebum. This can disturb the skin's natural protective film and lead to irritation. Prefer mild cleansing gels or foams that remove dirt particles without drying out the skin.

Not caring for skin after swimming

Chlorine and saltwater can dry out the skin significantly. Those who do not shower after swimming and apply a moisturizing care risk feelings of tightness and irritation. A light after-sun balm or an aloe vera gel formulation is the best choice here.

Relying only on moisture

Moisturizing care is important in summer – but not sufficient alone. Antioxidants like Vitamin C or E additionally protect the skin from free radicals that are caused by UV radiation. Therefore, integrate an antioxidant serum into your morning routine.

Conclusion: Less is often more

A summer-appropriate skincare routine mainly means: light textures, consistent sun protection, and targeted protection against oxidative stress. Those who pay attention to their skin's needs in the heat can effectively prevent irritation, premature skin aging, and blemishes.
